Great Winter Foods

What are great winter foods, and what would you find in them? In the winter since you are usually more inactive and don't get as many supplements like vitamins, minerals, and other benefits that are necessary for you to be healthy. You want foods like porridge or oatmeal. You can choose to eat fruits and vegetables that are a good source of vitamin C and B 12  and look for sources of zinc and iron . Eating these types of foods are going to boost immunity, keep up healthy starches in your body and be satisfied for all of the season.

Turnips

Turnip is an excellent food to eat in the winter. It is an antioxidant rich food and contains vitamin K and vitamin A. Eating Turnips and it's leaves has many benefits for bone health, digestion, and can help prevent cancer because of its detoxifying properties. Not only is this an excellent food, but it's leaves also have many uses.  They are used in tea, salads, and garnishes in many different recipes. It is also a good source of potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium and copper. Turnips also contain phosphorus, omega-3 fatty acids and protein. Turnips like many other vegetables are very low in saturated fats and cholesterol, and  have dietary fibers.

Dates

Dates are a very good food to eat in the winter because of its sources of iron, protein, calcium, and plenty of other vitamins which are essential to maintain good health and immunity.Since winter is known to bring a great range of different diseases, it is great to add dates to your diet because of its immunity boosting properties. It has Fiber, Protein, Potassium, Magnesium, Copper, Manganese, Iron, and Vitamin B6, which are excellent to maintain a healthy lifestyle in winter and in all the seasons. It is a very widely known superfood and has been a staple source of food in many cultures. This is a great food choice.


Cranberries

Cranberries are so full of fiber and nutrients, but they are a very tasty treat. The most ideal way to gain the advantages of these berries is that you want to have them as fresh as possible. They curb antibiotic resistance,  are anti-inflammatory and packed with antioxidants, boost circulation, offer disease protection, support gut health, and help with immunity. Not only do they have these benefits but they are in season meaning you can implement them to many different recipes and they are amazingly low in calories. They are a great source of vitamins, antioxidants, and fibers which will all help you with your daily life. 

Winter Squash

Winter squashes are in abundance in the season and it is a great food to eat. . Butternut squash is loaded with vitamins and nutrients, and while you can buy them year round, we think about them in the winter when people are more likely to prepare dishes that include them. Squash has properties that can help combat cancer, help prevent or reduce symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis,  digestive health because of the fibers, provides immune support( vitamin C ), Beneficial for skin and hair( vitamin B6 ), and lower risk of heart problems. Winter Squash is a great seasonal food, but it also comes in many varieties, and another healthy option is acorn squash. All these varieties may be different, but they have similar benefits and are pretty good for you. So you can’t go wrong by eating some squash!

Citrus Fruits 

Citrus fruits are a great way to eat during the winter. They are full of vitamin C, fiber, folate, vitamin A, calcium, and potassium, but these are just a few parts of this wide range of foods. These foods contain several different antioxidants that may help prevent a range of health concerns, from cardiovascular disease to cancer. Different types of citrus fruits have similar nutrients but in slightly different amounts. They are also pretty delicious, and can be implemented into different dishes, but the more conventional way of eating them is alone or maybe even a fruit salad. These fruits are also a more tasty alternative than say eating lemons or lime, which are also amazingly healthy foods.
