When to choose Photo facials/ IPL for your skin
The ideal time to get some treatment for skin pigmentation and sun damage is in the fall. Using light based lasers like an Intense pulse light/IPL can be ideal in this time when we are not concerned with too much sun exposure especially in the north east. It is also ideal after summer when you are done with all the summer fun.
Photo facials are great for sun damaged skin with sun spots, blotchiness and broken blood vessels. Also is an ideal treatment for patients having rosacea.
It is important to note that IPL light treatments are not for every skin type. It is very important to consult with your doctor first if you have never had this treatment before. It is also not the ideal treatment for all types of pigmentation contrary to popular belief. For example patients of ethnic skin, or patients having melasma often are “not” good candidates for IPL/photofacials and can often lead to worsening of the pigmentation. This why having a your skin care physician and dermatologist review your options is important prior to booking for the procedure.
Ideally we recommend 3 treatments about a month a apart to see the best results. Expect some redness and mild flaking post procedure. Using SPf and good skin care will speed brightening of the skin tone and texture as well as healing of the underlying dermis.
