Eating for Anti-Aging

As we age our skin often goes through active changes.  You may start seeing wrinkles, stubborn acne and in some cases inflammation. There are many ways to slow down the aging process. Starting with focusing on your diet. Keeping track of what nutrients and foods you are consuming that may affect the aging process.


Nutrients such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium, can help with anti-aging as it relates to your skin and in your overall health. 


Vitamin A. It is aimed to treat and prevent wrinkles that you may experience and are a great source of vitamin A.  Some foods rich in this are Spinach, Red Bell Pepper, Papaya, Tangerines, Salmon and Eggs.


Vitamin C targets to remove dark spots, wrinkles, and extreme sun exposure. It helps boost the collagen produced in your skin and prevent loss of collagen. Some foods that contain a great source of vitamin C are Strawberries, Broccoli, Avocados, Cauliflower, Bananas. 


Vitamin E helps with dry and flaky skin,  scar, wrinkles. It also reduces the UV damage that happens to your skin. Food items that you should start using in your diet that contain vitamin E is Nuts, Sunflower seeds, Mango.


Consuming Magnesium helps with the whole face. It slows down the process that creates the process of aging, DNA synthesis. It helps with acne, fine lines, and even wrinkles. Food items that contain magnesium are Chickpeas, Edamame, Bananas, Okra. 


Potassium aims to help with the skin's pH, and kills germs on your face. A similar antioxidant is vitamin K. They are not the same things and have different functions but are similar. Some foods that are rich in potassium are Sweet potatoes, Mushrooms, Cantaloupe, Tuna.


The nutrient, Calcium, helps with dry, wrinkled, itchy skin and renews that skin by creating new skin cells. It also helps with harsh weather conditions that may be affecting the skin. Foods that are rich in calcium and should be included into your diet are Milk, Yogurt, Figs, Kale, Broccoli. 



Incorporating nutrient rich foods like the ones listed above into your everyday diet can have a positive affect on your skin health as well as overall health. Many of the foods that have been listed contain even more than one nutrient that helps with skin health such as Avocado that contain vitamin A, C, E, and potassium, so grab a few items that will benefit you and enjoy.
