A Quick Ayurvedic Breakfast recipe

An Ayurveda breakfast takes into account your dosha or Ayurvedic body type and follows certain guidelines to ensure good digestion. Let’s take a look at some healthy breakfast ideas from Ayurveda.

We all know that a balanced breakfast is important for starting the day. In particular, breakfast is a critical meal when Vata dosha is elevated.

After an overnight fast, a healthy breakfast helps in nourishing Vata, the Ayurvedic element of air and space responsible for all forms of movement in the body.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, one should eat in accordance with their hunger alone. Skipping breakfast might also disturb the sadhaka Pitta which is responsible for maintaining an even temper, joy, and contentment.

Ayurveda generally advises not to skip breakfast. After an overnight fast if you try to skip your breakfast the doshas will lose their equilibrium. As a result, you could experience an aggravation of Vata and Pitta dosha, resulting in unwanted cravings and acidity.

Here is an amazing breakfast recipe which both adults and kids would definitely enjoy.

Sweet Potato Porridge

Ingredients -

  • 1 medium sized sweet potato

  • 1 Tbsp of ghee

  • 1 pinch cardamom powder

  • 1 pinch nutmeg powder

  • ½ cup of milk (your choice of dairy or plant-based)

  • 4-5 crushed almonds and cashews - skip this if you have a nut allergy

  • 4-5 dried fruits of your choice - I prefer raisins and cranberries

Method of Preparation -

Boil, peel and grate the sweet potatoes in a bowl. Add the above ingredients and give it a stir. Warm the milk and add to the sweet potato, creating the sweet potato porridge.

Sweet potatoes are loaded with nutrition and are earthy and sweet in nature which provide you with essential energy, a boost to the digestive fire and also help in good elimination due to their fiber content. Sweet potatoes are Vata and Pitta dosha pacifying.
