4 Tips to stick to your New Year Resolutions

Many people will make New Year’s resolutions, however the majority will also fail to achieve them. I think making New Year Resolutions are still a great idea even though there might be a chance that you fail to achieve the results completely.

We often tend to set a vague or unattainable goal which might cause us to fail sooner.

Most of the resolutions people tend to make are for self improvement like healthy living and food habits, happiness goals, fitness etc. In real making these resolutions are really good because being intentional about how you want to grow and develop will help you achieve results.

Here are some ideas to stick to your resolutions in 2023 -

  1. Don’t set your resolution based on what you think you should be doing rather than what you actually want to do. For example, you want to lose some pounds, but setting a goal like hitting the gym 5 times a week and cutting down all carbs and sweets from day 1 is unattainable. Take baby steps. In this example you want to shed some weight but you don’t have to push yourself so hard that makes you lose interest and get tired sooner. Start with slower steps like take a 30 minutes walk a day or hit the gym twice a week.

  2. Monitor yourself regularly. Monitoring your progress is key to creating lasting change. Use tracking apps for calories intake, exercise, reading goals or anything you want to track. Last year I decided to spend more time reading and in order to achieve that I joined the good reads reading challenge and set a goal of books to read that year. And regularly keeping a track of books I read and the more I need to achieve my goal helped me complete my reading goal for the year.

  3. Use your social media to show out the results. This might actually help because you know that you have some eyes on you. Make an instagram post about your healthy eating habits, or amount of time you spend learning a new language.

  4. Focus on one goal at a time. It is important that you set realistic small goals to begin with.

The key to a successful New Year's resolution may also lie in establishing new goals, rather than breaking bad habits. A 2020 study about New Year Resolutions, published in the journal PLoS One , found that 55% of participants considered themselves successful in sustaining their New Year's resolutions from the previous year.
